Description
Discovery® C8 HPLC Column, 5 µm – Supelco by Merck
The Discovery® C8 HPLC column from Supelco by Merck is a reversed-phase column designed for analytes requiring a less retentive stationary phase than C18. The shorter octyl chain provides moderate hydrophobic retention, making this column particularly valuable for highly non-polar compounds that would be over-retained on C18, as well as for methods requiring faster elution of hydrophobic analytes without sacrificing resolution.
The column is built on high-purity, spherical silica with a fully porous particle platform, providing efficient mass transfer and good column efficiency. With 7.5% carbon loading, a surface area of 200 m²/g, and a surface coverage of 3.4 µmol/m², the Discovery® C8 delivers consistent selectivity and peak shape across a variety of reversed-phase mobile phase systems. The endcapped design minimises residual silanol interactions for improved peak symmetry with basic analytes.
Operating across a pH range of 2–8 with a maximum temperature of 70°C and maximum pressure of 400 bar, these columns are compatible with standard HPLC and LC/MS instrumentation. Metal impurities below 10 ppm support analysis of metal-sensitive compounds, and USP L7 certification enables use in pharmacopoeial analytical methods.
