Description
Ascentis® Express C18 HPLC Column, 2.7 µm – Supelco by Merck
The Ascentis® Express C18 column from Supelco by Merck is built on Fused-Core superficially porous particle technology, which combines a solid silica core with a thin, precisely controlled porous outer shell. This construction dramatically reduces the diffusion path for analyte molecules compared to fully porous particles, resulting in significantly narrower peaks, higher efficiency, and faster separations — approaching the performance of sub-2 µm UHPLC columns while operating at moderate backpressures compatible with conventional HPLC equipment.
At 2.7 µm particle size with a 90 Å pore structure and 135 m²/g surface area, the column is particularly suited for fast method development and high-throughput analysis of small molecules, pharmaceutical compounds, and food analytes. The endcapped C18 octadecyl phase provides strong hydrophobic retention with good peak symmetry and low silanol activity. The maximum pressure of 600 bar and operating temperature of up to 60°C allow compatibility with both standard HPLC and modern UHPLC systems. The expanded pH range of 2–9 and metal impurity specification below 5 ppm support demanding analytical applications including LC/MS and UHPLC-MS coupling.
